LoTek Coordination
Workshops
Every month, in 8 regional circuits, stewards and LoTek staff train the people who build and keep up the networks. The two hundred volunteers who installed Ashland Park in a weekend trained in these sessions over the winter before.

Rooftop installation
Mounting, aiming and sealing a Stoop node on a real roof, with harnesses on and a trained installer for every two trainees.

Monitoring and fault-finding
Reading this site the way a steward does: link quality, battery state, and how to tell a dead radio from a dead power strip.

Hardware build night
Assembling Stoop nodes from parts, testing them and logging their serial numbers. Every node built goes into the circuit’s spares.

Climbing safety
Ladders, roof hatches, harnesses and anchors, and when to call off a climb. Required every two years for active installers.

Governance clinic
Charters, elections, quorum and the maintenance fund, with stewards from older networks on hand to answer questions.

Spectrum and legal basics
Unlicensed bands, rooftop agreements, pole permits and what to do with a letter from a lawyer. Led by LoTek’s legal team.

Site survey walk
A walk around a host network’s blocks with binoculars and a compass, looking for lines of sight and the roofs that have them.

Treasurers’ session
Running a maintenance fund: budgets, reserves, publishing the books to members and planning for the next big repair.
